Playing Catch up… part two.

Oh the month of  June was so crazy that it was almost a blur!

It started with T-ball…  really do you have to say much about T-ball if you haven’t watched a game you really are missing out .  It is the only game I know where no one ever wins and sometime the kids think they are playing tackle football when they all chase after the ball.

Batter, Batter, Batter, Swing….  and he did right into the next field.

This year he started to run to the bases instead of galloping.

He even hustled after the balls this yr instead of  being fearful of getting trampled.

How do you  kill time while in the outfield?  You make airplane shadows while hopefully keeping your eye on the ball!

And after 3 long innings each kids can hardly give a cheer for the other team because they are too worried about getting their snack after the game.

Playing catch up.. part one

I really thought that once summer was upon us that I would be better about updating…. well life has been super crazy and I have fallen behind once again..

In May…

this handsome guy graduated preschool

and preformed in a year end finale of sorts.  Where he always ends up on the back row behind a taller kid…

top row second from the left…

Where there was lots of singing and dancing…

and a heart felt goodbye to Brenden’s first real friendship since Brenden will be going to school in Price and Cole in Helper… both moms and both kids cried.

and a goodbye to Miss Anna and Miss Paulette

Who have made a huge impact on my little guy!

Pottery Barn knock off.

I know a few of you have been patiently waiting to see my finished Pottery Barn knock off so drum roll please…….

Before (don’t mind the mess this was just as we were dismantling it)

After

IMG_3184

We still have a few more things that need to be completed like crown molding for the top, put glass on the work surfaces for protection from the “little people” and finding the right accessories to decorate (I am thinking vintage pieces).  Overall the project cost $400 in supplies and an endless amount of hours in labor but that beats paying $3400 any day in my book.

On one of my quests being thrifty I came across this beauty for $3.00 and knew I had a perfect spot for it.

IMG_3179

Don’t you just love finding vintage pieces for a perfect price?  I am always curious of  the stories they could tell!  Then while cleaning it up and putting it in its place I came across this……

IMG_3181

Seriously, I couldn’t believe it!  I wouldn’t need to search too far to hear its story just a call to my uncle would do!

Friday Night Date Night.

What do your Friday night dates consist of?  Dinner, friends, entertainment or maybe a movie?  Here is a glimpse of what ours have consisted of lately.

Yes that is a pile of lumber!  Don’t mind the mess of all my old appliances and insulation for the basement theater room (that room warrants its own post, soon).

IMG_2524

Kind of hard to believe that this pile could end up like this…….

Pottery Barn Knock off (PB value $250, we made it for $40 in lumber and $20 in paint supplies).

For those of you that haven’t stumbled across this site you are missing out.  Since moving from our 900 sq foot house to a 3500 sq ft 1970′s fixer up we have had no budget for new furniture with all of the remodeling we have done and are still doing.  I am a huge  fan of Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware just to name a few, but their prices are out of this world but I knew with time we could buy a piece here and a piece there.  Well I have to wait no more because my husband is super handy with power tools so needless to say I have so many projects in my “To Do” folder that we could be busy for a while.

As we speak this beauty is coming together quite nicely in the garage…..

pb desk

and this next…..

Tv

I’ll just stop there because my list could go on and on….

Can I tell you how excited I was that she posted the picture of our finished bed on her blog!  I felt a little famous…

Things that make me smile :)

Do you ever feel like you are the main character in the movie Ground Hog Day?  Believe me this winter has been long and I am in need of some sun and flip flops.  So I thought I should share a few things that make me smile even when Puxatony said that there will be 6 more weeks of winter.

Love notes in the mail…

A gift from school full of conversation hearts that he kindly shared with his brother in the car and told me that they were meant for me and they tasted real good…

Homemade Valentine treats… Yummy candy dipped marshmallows…

Temps above freezing!  Boys loved “coloring” the snow

IMG_2460

Playing dress up…

IMG_2401

The sound of a baby in the house!  No I am not hinting at something we watch Ty’s sisters little girl on Fridays and Brenden is in love with her.

IMG_2408

Did I already mention temps above freezing?   This is all that is left of our snowman, oh I can’t wait for summer.

And finally the sound of a nail gun downstairs makes me giddy but that will have to be another post…..

Who knew parenting would be this hard…

Don’t you wish that your children came with owners manuals?  Do you ever wonder if the way you parent is enough?  Will we be messing our kids up for all time and eternity?  If only we had the answers..  If these two stories are any glimpse of what is yet to come we need all your prayers we just might not be sane by the time they are 18.

Tonight while rocking Nicholas I asked him to sing me a lullaby instead of me singing it.  He eagerly replied and began to sing “We Will We Will Rock You!”  Am I surprised,  no not at all.

Brenden really has been our text book example of a child until recently when he has developed a bit of a sassy mouth.  Still not quite sure how to handle it and in the last week he has had the WII taken away and the computer.  So he had one more day left of  good behavior when he lost control of his mouth.   I told him to go upstairs because I really didn’t want to hear his mouth anymore and he turned to me and said, “Quack, Quack, Quack!”  I started to laugh hysterically because I was totally caught off guard this is something Nicholas would do not Brenden.  You know it really is hard to discipline when you are laughing and now I wonder why he never takes me serious!

We really are pretty lucky to have these two guys in our lives and wouldn’t trade them for anything.  But really why does parenting have to be a guessing game.

Out of the mouth of Babes!

IMG_2297

When I tell Ty’s grandma some of the cute things the boys say she always tells me to be sure to document it because one day even though you think it will never happen remembering things will be hard.  So here I go…

One night while rocking Nicholas and singing his favorite song “Twinkle Twinkle” I asked him if his nose was stuffy and his reply,  “No I wiped my boogers on the couch all ready!”

On Christmas Eve we had Ty’s parents and his grandparents over for dinner and in the middle of dinner Nicholas passed gas which I was hoping no one heard.  When no one said anything he stood up and put his finger in the air and said, “Did you hear that?”  Ty’s grandma replied by saying, “No what was it?”    “Just my poop!”

During breakfast the dog was patiently waiting for Nicholas to finish in hopes of having his left over pancakes.  When he noticed she was starting to beg he said, “Get out of here this is serious!”

Merry Christmas 2009!

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

2009 Christmas Card Big (for printing)

What do you think about this being our card for next year?

320_IMG_8784

I about fell out of my chair when I saw the proofs from our little visit with Santa this year.  In Brendens defense he tends to point with this finger.  I am so proud of him this is the first year we have actually been able to get him to sit on his lap in 5 yrs.  Nicholas was a whole other story, he ran from the room once he saw him and was extremly concerned that he was getting a shot.  He kept on repeating, “I don’t want a shot”.

Brenden asked for Marble Genius and Fire Mountain.  Nicholas has no requests but if it was up to me he would be getting a lump of coal… It really is a good thing he is so cute!
